#1 Define Your Passions

One way to feel like you are living life to the fullest is to define your passions. Of course, these will be different for each and every one of us, but take some time to really get to know yourself.

What makes you tick? What are you good at? What do you love doing?

These are the areas of life you should be pursuing. Even if you aren’t making money from these passions, you can continue to nurture and develop your passions and down the road, you can think about using your gifts to make a living.

Remember:

A journal of a thousand miles begins with one single step.

Don’t feel overwhelmed if you are at the beginning of your journey. Just start. Starting small is better than never starting at all.

#2 Take Action

One of the biggest mistakes people make when they want to change or move their life in a different direction is to plan and think but never take action.

Procrastination will be the death of your happiness.

Learn to take action while you still have the momentum and start even though it may seem scary. Learn how to push yourself through the scary thoughts by asking yourself, “What is the absolute worst thing that can happen?” Be okay with that happening and get moving on your dreams.

#3 Be Social

Humans are meant to be social. Yet, quality over quantity is something to remember here. It is better to find people that you can lean on in hard times or people that help motivate you.

After listening for Tony Robbins for years, I learned that you are the culmination of the five people you hang around most.

So it is important to have friends and have support, but it is also important to hang around people that are already doing what you want to do.

Find people that are good for you and cultivate friendship. You may lose friends on your personal development journey and that is okay. Let go of toxic people and continue to build your new friendships.

#4 Get to Know Yourself and Be Self-Aware

You may think you know yourself, but do you “really” know yourself?

Are you self-aware? Often we see ourselves as just being, but don’t really think about how we are towards others. We don’t take the time to think about how we play a role in our lives and the way our lives are going, be it good or bad.

It is time to start journaling and asking yourself questions every day.

You can use this free journal to get started.

Work on yourself and become aware of your triggers, anxieties, and agitations. Also, focus on your positive qualities, helpful aspects, and how you show love – and do more of it!

Getting to know yourself, will help you sway your life toward your positive qualities and work on negatives as you grow.

#5 Quit the Comparison Game

It is hard for anyone to escape from comparison. We compare clothes, relationships, cars, salaries, and so forth. It is a waste of time and it does not do anything productive for our lives. Step one is to stop comparing ourselves with others and start feeling content with what we have in our lives.

Remember, Comparison is the thief of joy, and learning how to overcome jealousy will bring you more joy and happiness in life.

#6 Be On The Ground Level – Be In Touch With Reality

The answer is simple because it’s all about priorities. While there are many reasons why people don’t make their lives count, the steps below will help you find your life’s meaning and work towards living a full one.

Don’t live your life wearing rose-tinted glasses. Learn to stay grounded and face what is going on around you instead of avoiding and ignoring, which often makes matters worse.

#7 What’s Your Definition

You should define what makes your life worth living first. This could be through religion or spirituality, belonging to clubs or organizations, hobbies, personal projects, or passions.

This will be different for each of us. You may find religion as a way to find meaning and peace in your life. You also use meditation to learn how to calm and ground yourself.

Think about hobbies you enjoy. There are thousands of groups on Facebook or in-person locally that will help support your interests and cultivate and grow new hobbies.

#8 Set Goals

Next, you should write down 5 goals for each category in the following categories: short term (less than 12 months) and long term (think five-year plan).

After deciding on your goals, create an action plan on how you are going to do this. Make sure to include a timeline and check back for progress.

If you fail, don’t worry. Set a new goal for yourself and little by little you will see your life turning into your vision.

#9 Be Present

When we speak of being present, we aren’t just referring to being physically in a room. If you are around friends and family, turn off the t.v., put your phone away, and ask each person something about what is going on in their lives. Make others around you feel important.

Learn to be present and in the moment. This entails letting go of fear and anxiety about the future and leaving regret and anger as a thing of the past. Think about it… If you are carrying around anger from a past event, you will be on edge and never truly be present in that given moment.

Being in the moment will allow you to truly enjoy what is going on around you.

It is important that we be in touch with reality as much as possible. We should not detach ourselves from the world around us because that would only make us feel worse about who we are and what we have accomplished.

#10 Make Connections

By using the above tips, you can truly connect with others and stop feeling like you are missing out on life. If you are having a hard time figuring out your passions and what makes life worth living, take a look at the people around you. Think about other people you care about. How can you make a connection with one of those people today?

Some easy ways to connect with others could be sending a text to an old friend, calling a relative, having coffee with someone special, or taking your kid to the park. These things are simple but let others know you care and you will start getting these things in return, which will make you feel loved and cared for too.

Am I Missing Out on Life Final Thoughts…

If you feel you are missing out on life, use the tips above to help you learn to live a cultivated, wholehearted lifestyle where you are really in touch with yourself in terms of passions, needs, wants, goals, and connections with others. You can strive to live your best life and be the best version of yourself every day. Enjoy life, my friend, because you only have one life to live.
