The Art of Goal Setting

Do you set goals? Goal setting can be difficult if you are feeling stuck and you do not have a clear vision of where you want your future self to be.

Yet, goal setting can also be a valuable tool in self-development, and in today’s post, you will learn the art of goal setting so you can visualize a clear path to your future and be successful.

Is the Art of Goal Setting Important?

If you are dreaming of a life you do not have, it is time to take action. You can learn the art of goal setting as a means to living your dream life.

Yet, dreaming will only get you so far. It is when you set a clear plan and take massive action, that you will begin to see positive changes in your life.

So yes, the art of goal setting is a skill that once mastered, will help you live your dream life and continue making progress in your life.

What is the Difference Between Goal Setting and Desire?

Desire is when you want something. At this point, it is just a thought that is in your head waiting to come alive.

Many get lost in the dream and do not know how to make this dream come to fruition.

Yet, goal setting is a step in the right direction. Goal setting helps you become clear with what it is you really want, and take action steps to achieve these goals as well as check your progress.

Learning the art of goal setting is a means to living your life the way YOU want to live.

I’ve been listening to a lot of old Tony Robbins CD’s and tony talks a lot about how desire can drive you, but it is in the daily habits that you see improvements.

It all starts with a thought and that thought can lead you if you are willing to do the work and stay disciplined. Your daily habits are a big part of that.

So being your journey by asking yourself, what is it that you really want out of life. Use this thought process and ask yourself questions, to dig deeper into your desires and these desires will, in turn, be the basis of your goals.

What are SMART Goals in the Art of Goal Setting?

“A goal without a plan, is only a dream”

Brian Tracey

Now that you have done some soul-searching and have your dreams or desire written down, it is time to make a plan of action to achieve your goals.

You can use this goal-setting sheet to help you get started.

How to Set Clear Goals and Be Successful in Five Easy Steps

Use these five steps to start writing down your SMART goals. Your dream life is within your reach.

#1 Make Your Goal Specific

SMART goals are important because this method of goal setting helps guide you in writing goals that are specific. Vague goals will only get you so far. In order to learn the art of goal setting, make sure you know exactly what it is you want. Be specific.

#2 Make Your Goal Measurable

Make sure your goal is measurable. For example, saying I will pay down debt isn’t measurable. Yet, if you say “I will pay down $100 of debt by November 1, 2021, you now have something you can measure on the date said to see if you achieved your goal.

#3 Make Your Gaol Achievable

If you don’t make that much money, you aren’t going to write a goal to pay off $1000, yet $100 is achievable. Make sure your goals are helping you “move the needle” but are so far-fetched that you will never see progress and then give up.

#4 Make Your Goal Relevant

Also, make sure your goals are relevant to the desires you wrote down earlier. Be clear about what you want and how you are going to get there.

#5 Make Your Goal Time-Bound

As you can see in the goal example above, I also set a time frame. When you learn the art of goal setting, you will need to give a time frame, otherwise, you will just hang on to the same goal and never grow. If you meet your goal by that time, celebrate and set a new goal. You will see you are constantly improving your life for the better, even if your goals are small.
